Local Policies at the Intersection of Environment, Animal Agriculture, and
Adapting to climate change through water policy for food security
September 22-24, 2014
This Sacramento-based, three-day program focuses on policy making at the
state level. The focus of the program is the policies and activities at the
intersection of climate change, animal health, public health, and food security.
California has been very active in developing both mitigating and adaptation
strategies across public and private sectors. As a group, we will focus on the
intersection of climate change, health, and food security policies. The outcome
will be to evaluate these policies and identify strengths and opportunities in
these policies. The group will interact with scientists, policy experts,
advocates, and government to assist in the evaluation process. Participants will
examine the development and implementation of state-level legislation and
regulation, as well as the role of the judicial system in resolving disputes.
The program will emphasize the diversity of perspectives influencing policy,
including science, politics and beliefs.
The program takes place in downtown Sacramento and we will walk and taxi as
appropriate. All meetings take place at offices of the people and organizations
involved in the program.
On the first day of the program we will start at 8:30AM at the Capitol Building, Room 125.
