State of Origin
In general, first preference for admission into the WSU DVM
program is given to qualified applicants who are residents of
Washington or Idaho, as well as qualified applicants certified by WICHE
contract states. Second preference is given to qualified applicants from
non-service area states and non-certified applicants from WICHE states
See Applications Procedures)
Information for Out-of-State Applicants
Prospective applicants should realize that a large volume of
out-of-state applications exists compared to the relatively low
number of out-of-state positions available at the WSU College of
Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and, consequently, a high proportion of
successful applications will be from Tier I candidates. (See
2006 Admissions Profile)
Applications from international students are accepted and
encouraged by the WSU CVM and are considered in the non-service area
pool. All international applicants must submit transcripts to a
transcript evaluation service. International students attending the
WSU CVM must pay out of state tuition for all 4 years (see
tuition and fees and other expenses) and
must demonstrate the ability to pay tuition and fees before being
admitted to the university. International students must demonstrate
English proficiency. A TOEFL score > 650 is required.
Washington Residency
Residency policies are set by the State of Washington (RCW 28B.15)
and applied uniformly throughout Washington’s public colleges and
universities. Requirements may be found at:
http://futurestudents.wsu.edu/admission/residency.aspx
Undergraduate and professional students must submit the Residency
Questionnaire and all supporting documentation to the Office of Registrar,
or urban campus office, by the dates below. Graduate students must submit
the Residency Questionnaire to the Graduate School, by the dates below.
- For the Spring 2007 semester, the deadline is February 6, 2007
- For the Summer 2007 semester, the deadline is May 21, 2007
- For the Fall 2007 semester, the deadline is September 18, 2007
Decisions on residence status are based on documentary evidence submitted,
which become a part of your file and are not returned. Students are
responsible for paying the resident portion of their fees (no later than the
fifth Friday of the semester) while awaiting a determination of their
residency status.
Idaho Residents
Idaho residents must request an Idaho Residency Information
Affidavit to certify their residency status. The form and all directions
can be found at the following web site:
http://www.students.uidaho.edu/default.aspx?pid=56127.
Be sure to print out and return the form to the U of I Admission address
on the right hand side of the form. If you have question, call
208-885-6326. An application cannot be processed in the Idaho admissions
pool until this document is completed and received.
WICHE Residency & Sponsorship
WSU College of Veterinary Medicine is a participant and receiving school
in the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) exchange
program.
The WICHE exchange program helps students in the Western states enroll
in selected out-of-state professional programs not offered in their home
states, as well as providing financial support.
WICHE member states that participate in the Veterinary Medicine program
include:
Arizona
Hawaii
Montana
Nevada
New Mexico
North Dakota
Utah
Wyoming
Under the terms of the WICHE compact, a certified student admitted from a
WICHE state is sponsored by his/her home state and pays resident tuition and
fees only. Students
MUST apply to their home states for
certification no later than October 15th.
WSU-CVM holds high regard, in terms of admission, for qualified
applicants who are certified by WICHE contract states. First preference in
admissions is given to qualified residents of Washington or Idaho, as well
as qualified applicants certified by WICHE contract states. After these
selections have been made, second preference for consideration of admission
goes to out-of-area/non-certified applicants from WICHE state
