Before we concentrate totally on the digit, let us get oriented on the thoracic limb of the horse. We are looking at the medial aspect of the left limb. How do I know? The chestnut (A) is found on the medial aspect of the limbs.

This limb is cut above the carpus (B). Sometimes people refer to the carpus as the knee...I don't.  The fetlock (C), sometimes called the ankle, is the only other joint we can determine with confidence externally. I would prefer you not use knee or ankle, especially on the thoracic limb, but you need to be familiar with these common terms. EqDigit3 has the saggital cut view of this limb.
