Try to identify the labelled structures before reading on.

These images are close-ups of distal portion of the metacarpus and the digit. Distal to the carpus and tarsus, the front and rear limbs are almost identical. Labelled are the third metacarpus (A), the fetlock joint (B), the long pastern bone or 1st phalanx (C), the pastern joint (D), the short pastern bone or 2nd phalanx (E), the coffin joint (F), the coffin bone or 3rd phalanx (G), and the proximal (a) and distal (b) sesmoid bones. The distal sesmoid is also called the navicular bone.
