You will notice that the red blood cells (RBCs) in this slide tend to stack upon each other like coins. This is known as rouleaux and is characteristic for horse (equine) blood. Circulating red blood cells have lost their nucleus and have a biconcave shape. Another characteristic of equine blood is the large granules (lysosomes) within the eosinophils.
