WSU_2_042: Small Intestine (ileum)
This is an image of the ileum, which is a segment of the small intestine. The finger-like projections are intestinal villi. Like microvilli, villi increase the surface area of the intestinal mucosa (epithelium) for absorption. Microvilli, however, are surface modifications of the epithelial cells themselves. Do not get these confused. Click on the image where indicated. [WebSlide] Digestive_WSU; Ileum (WSU_2_042) |
