Renal Cortex

The cortex of the canine kidney contains "rays" of straight tubules known as medullary rays. Within the rays, we find the descending and ascending thick segments of the renal loop, as well as collecting ducts. The medullary rays are the centers of lobules. Between the rays are the cortical labyrinths. The cortical labyrinths contain the proximal and distal convoluted tubules and renal corpuscles.
