Yes, there is a lateral digital extensor in the rear limb

This is a caudolateral view of the crus. The
tendon on the left (cranial) is that of the peroneus longus muscle. We
know by the name that it does not have an action upon the digits, right? The more caudal
tendon (to the right) belongs to a very small muscle head that sits adjacent to the deep
digital flexor muscle. If we followed this tendon distally, we would find that it inserts
upon the dorsal aspect of the lateral digit; hence, it is the lateral digital
extensor muscle. Now that you believe me, I will tell that it is not a
muscle you need to worry about.
