The first unpaired vessel to leave the aorta within the abdomen is the celiac artery (A). What organs does it supply blood to? The second unpaired vessel is the cranial mesenteric artery (B). The larvae of the parasite Strongylus vulgaris may damage the wall of the artery at this location in the horse, causing aneurysm or thrombus formation (FYI). What organs are supplied by the cranial mesenteric artery? C. Renal artery; D. Aorta (best exposure of it on this image)

The branches of the celiac artery supply blood to the liver, spleen, stomach, pancreas and proximal duodenum. The cranial mesenteric artery lies within the root of the mesentary and sends branches to supply the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) and large intestine (cecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, proximal descending colon).
