What is the name of the junction (A) between the skin and the hoof?
Due to the preparation of this specimen, the stratum externum (B) from
the periople does not extend distally on the hoof wall very far. Therefore, the dark
portion of the hoof wall that we see (C) is the stratum medium.
Look closely at the specimens in the lab, and you will be able to see striations from the
tubular horn of the stratum medium. Did you remember that the junction between the skin
and hoof is the coronet?
