If you look closely at your dissection dog, you should be able to see muscle fibers encicling the palpebral fissure, unless they have been cut away with the skin. This is the orbicularis oculi muscle (A), which closes the eye. Muscle fibers passing caudally from the upper eyelid belong to the levator palpebrae superioris muscle (B). They are difficult to distinguish on this image, so do not try to. Click on image or the image 3 link above for further dissection.
