This is a slightly craniolateral view with the middle gluteal muscle (D) transected to expose the deep gluteal muscle (E). The cranial belly of the sartorius muscle (A), the tensor fasciae lata muscle (B), the fasciae lata (C), the biceps femoris muscle (F) and the semiteninosis muscle (G) are also labelled. The deep gluteal muscle, like the middle gluteal muscle, is innervated by the cranial gluteal nerve and acts to abduct and extend the hip. |
