Muscles of the Hip and Thigh [ Up ] [ image 1 ] [ image 2 ] [ image 3 ] [ image 4 ] [ image 5 ] [ image 6 ] [ image 7 ]
In this image, both the fasciae lata and the biceps femoris muscle (E) have been transected to expose the vastus lateralis muscle (F), the sciatic nerve (G) and more of the semitendinosis muscle (H). The other muscles deep to the nerve are the adductor and semimembranosis muscles, but I will only expect you to identify these muscles from the medial view of the limb. Which muscles are innervated by the sciatic nerve and what are their functions? We will look at the sciatic nerve again under [nerves]. Did you identify the cranial head of the sartorius muscle (A), the tensor fasciae lata muscle (B), the middle gluteal muscle (C) and the superficial gluteal muscle (D)?
