Here we are separating the
epidermis (epithelium plus keritinized horn) of the hoof from the underlying dermis, or
corium. The corium, like the epithelium, is continuous, but it is named in a regional
manner. The portion which lies deep to the perioplic epithelium is the perioplic
corium (A); The portion which lies deep to the coronary epithelium is the coronary
corium (B); The portion which lies deep to the laminar epithelium is the laminar
corium (C). Likewise, on the ground surface of the hoof, the portion which lies
deep th the epithelium of the sole is the corium of the sole, and the
portion which lies deep th the epithelium of the frog is the corium of the frog.
Can you tell me which portion of the hoof is made by each of the epithelia
mentioned above?
