The white line
is composed of the deep nonpigmented portion of the stratum medium and
the nonpigmented stratum internum. The stratum internum is not produced
much more distally than the third phalynx (P3), but it is pushed distally by the downward
growth of the stratum medium. If you look closely at the inner portion of the white line
on the ground surface of the hoof, you can see the epidermal laminae.
