Portal triad Hepatic cords Central vein

The liver, as you recall, is made up of sheets or chords of hepatocytes, which are arranged into lobules. In the center of the lobule is a central vein. These veins all coalesce to form the hepatic vein. The outer edge of the lobule is surrounded by dense irregular connective tissue. At the connective tissue junction of several lobules, a triad of structures are found. This portal triad consists of branches of the hepatic artery, branches of the portal vein, and interlobular bile ducts. Click on each button above to view each region.
