Arterial Supply to the Pelvic Limb [ Up ] [ image 1 ] [ image 2 ]
As I was saying in image 1, the popliteal artery (which is the continuation of the femoral artery) divides into the cranial and caudal tibial arteries. The caudal tibial artery is small, and so we will not worry about identifying it. The cranial tibial artery (A) is the main supply to the digits. In this case, I went between the long digital extensor and peroneus longus muscles to find the cranial tibial artery and peroneal nerve, both of which course adjacent to the tibia. Often you can find them by reflecting the cranial tibial and long digital extensor muscles away from each other. |
