Nerve Supply to the Pelvic Limb [ Up ] [ FemoralN ] [ SaphenousN ] [ SciaticN ] [ PeronealN ] [ TibialN ] [ GlutealNn ] [ ObturatorN ]
Without digging to find where the femoral nerve exits the body cavity, a good place to find its branches are in the primary muscles it supplies. What muscles does the femoral nerve supply? By retracting the transected belly of the rectus femoris muscle, you should be able to see the femoral nerve (F) sending branches into the muscles of the quadriceps femoris. The femoral nerve also supplies the sartorius muscle. In general, these muscles extend the stifle (the caudal belly of the sartorius, however, flexes the stifle), and the sartorius and rectus femoris muscles also flex the hip. |
