Nerve Supply to the Pelvic Limb [ Up ] [ FemoralN ] [ SaphenousN ] [ SciaticN ] [ PeronealN ] [ TibialN ] [ GlutealNn ] [ ObturatorN ]
One of the continuations of the sciatic nerve is the common peroneal nerve . The peroneal nerve divides into a superficial branch, which is mostly sensory from the skin, and the deep branch (P), which courses deep with the cranial tibial artery (also seen here) and is motor to the muscle. Which muscles are supplied by the peroneal nerve and what is their action(s)? The peroneal nerve innervates the craniolateral muscles of the crus, which include the cranial tibial muscle, the long digital extensor muscle, the peroneus longus muscle and the lateral digital extensor muscle. As a group, these muscles act to flex the hock and extend the digits, but remember, if the individual muscle does not have digital in its name, it does not act on the digits! |
