The other terminal branch of the sciatic nerve is the tibial nerve (T). At the stifle, it dives between the two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle, and courses in the fascia lateral to the common tendon of the gastrocnemius and superficial digital flexor muscles. What muscles are supplied by the tibial nerve, and what are their actions?

The tibial nerve innervates the muscles on the caudal aspect of the crus, which include the gastrocnemius muscle and the superficial and deep digital flexor muscles. These muscles, as a group, act to extend the hock and flex the digits, but remember,

if the individual muscle does not have digital in its name, it does not act on the digits!
