Suprascapular Nerve [ Up ]
You should be well aquainted with this image by now. The question is...how aquainted are you with your dissection dog? Scroll Down
The suprascapular nerve (S) is found diving between the subscapularis and supraspinatus muscles. It courses over the cranial edge of the scapula to supply the muscles above (supra) the scapula. You will better understand this relationship when we talk about locomotion. Which muscles are innervated, and what is the condition that occurs when this nerve is damaged by, let's say, a horse running into a post with it's shoulder? The suprascapular nerve innervates the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles. Damage to this nerve causes atrophy of these muscles in a condition known as "Sweeney".
