This image shows the ureter (C) more clearly as it courses to the urinary bladder (D). Like the kidney, the ureter is retroperitoneal in most of its course. The ureters then travel through the broad ligament (female) or genital fold (male) to gain access to the urinary bladder.
Also labeled here is the renal artery (A) and vein (B); the descending colon (E), which was reflected to expose the kidney; the spleen (F) and the ductus deferens (G).
