The goal of the HSVMA is to raise awareness on animal welfare issues, especially as they pertain to veterinarians and veterinary students. The student chapter of the HSVMA promotes the humane treatment of animals through discussion and presentation of relevant topics, field trips, volunteerism, and other forms of advocacy. Activities have included lectures on the Gig Harbor Prison Pet Partnership, Rural Area Veterinary Services, and the Adopt-A-(Pit) Bull Program. The group sells a Mutt of the Month calendar featuring WSU student's adopted dogs. Proceeds go to the Whitman County Shelter.
