WSU
College of Veterinary Medicine Organizes Animal Shelter Drive Laundry soap, printer cartridges, bleach, trash bags, computer paper,
and dishwasher detergent – these are all items on the wish lists of
local animal shelters in need of donations.
This, of course, is in
addition to dog and cat food, toys and treats. And since this is the time of
year for giving, the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine decided to help them
out. During a three-week drive organized by the college, people donated
hundreds of dollars worth of goods big enough to fill two vans and the back of
a pickup.

“Normally we do a food drive for the local food banks, so we weren’t sure how
this would go over or what people’s response would be,” said David Tibbals, a
staff member at the veterinary college and chairman of the dean’s staff
advisory committee responsible for the idea. “But it was amazing – we got
almost everything on their list.”
At the end of the drive, Tibbals and other volunteers collected and delivered
about forty cases of animal treats, piles of canned cat food and bags of dry
dog food, copy paper, litter boxes, dust pans, detergent, clipped coupons and
more to the Whitman County Humane Society in Pullman and the Humane Society of
the Palouse in Moscow.
“There were lots of things on the list that most people would never think to
donate, like paper…but they need it and someone has to pay for it,” he said.
“The shelters were thrilled when they found out…they will take whatever they
can get.”
Even though the drive has ended at the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine,
those who wish to donate can still deliver items to local animal shelters at
anytime. To obtain wish lists or other information, contact the
Humane Society of the
Palouse at 208-883-1166, or the Whitman County Humane Society at
