Jerry Newbrey Teaching Scholars, 2004

The designation of "Newbrey Teaching Scholar" is awarded for
excellence in teaching during the first 3 years of the
veterinary curriculum. It is awarded to faculty who,
according to the CVM's standardized student evaluations,
score in the top 20 percentile of the college on the query
"Rate the instructor." For consideration as a Newbrey
Teaching Scholar, a faculty member must: {a} teach at least
10% of a course in the core curriculum,(or have at least 6
contact hours), and {b} receive standardized evaluations
from at least 50% of the veterinary students enrolled in the
course. The Newbrey Scholars are recognized each spring for
achievement in the previous calendar year.

Excellence

The
Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence is given to
those faculty members who, through their dedication and
investigation in research, are chosen from among their peers as
an outstanding researcher in the field of veterinary medicine.
The College
of Veterinary Medicine Research Committee has named Dr. Steve
Hines recipient of the 2004 Pfizer Award for Research
Excellence for his research on hemoparasites, and more recently,
the neonatal immune response of foals to Rhodococcus equi. The award was presented at
CVM Student Research
Symposium banquet, October 14, 2004.

Dr. Kathy Ruby receives the Washington State Veterinary
Medical Association (WSVMA) 2004 Humane Animal Welfare Award posted October 2004

Dr. Kathy Ruby was awarded the 2004 Humane Animal
Welfare Award in recognition of her advancement of
animal welfare through extraordinary service by the
Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.
The award was presented at the association’s annual
conference in Yakima. |

Dr. Michael Mison is the recipient of the Carl J.
Norden Outstanding Teacher Award

This award is given by Pfizer to the outstanding teacher
in the College of Veterinary Medicine as selected by the
fourth year class. Dr. Mison is currently an Assistant
Professor of small animal surgery in the department of
Veterinary Clinical Sciences and chief of the small
animal surgery section. |
