What is an LCD Panel? It is used to project computer images from a computer/laptop onto a big screen. The image is projected onto a screen by a separate high powered overhead projector.
Advantages: You do not have to waste time or spend money getting your images put onto slides from your computer programs. You can also have moving visuals and animations which are not possible with traditional slides.
Warning: It is somewhat complicated to use, so you might want to take the time to become familiar with it operations prior to your first presentation. For your convenience a 10 minute training video on its setup can be checked out at BCU.
Section 1: Reserving the Equipment
1.) Contact BCU at (509) 335-2624 or go in person to Bustad 123 and reserve the LCD Panel for the times and dates you will need. (Do it in advance because it is usually used several times each day.)
2.) If you have never set it up before you should probably watch the setup training video BCU has. (It is ten minutes long.)
3.) Pick up the LCD at BCU on the day of your presentation. (The LCD automatically comes with a special overhead and a dolly to carry it around.)
4.) While it is checked out in your name, it will be your responsibility to take care of it. Please, keep it out of rain, snow, submersion in water (mud puddles), direct sunlight, extreme cold (left in a car), or heat (next to a radiator). Its best to return it as soon as your done to prevent it from being stolen and to allow others to use it. If you give it to someone else make sure you clear it with BCU first otherwise you will still be held responsible for it.
Section 2: Setting up the Overhead
5.) Take the dark gray cover off - notice the hard cover protects the glass. The legs are folded up underneath the unit. Find the clips, open them, and pull the legs out. Remember to pull the entire ex-tension cord out from inside the machine. If you do not do this the bulb may burn the cord and start a fire! When properly setup the projector is sitting on four legs, the mirror and bulb assembly has dropped down, and the cord is pulled completely out.
6.) Notice the arm with the large wheel on the side of the machine. Turn the knob, This will extend the arm. When the mirror/focusing unit is freed from inside the unit, rotate it so it won't hit the unit, and pull the arm up into a vertical position. Now rotate the mirror into its proper position.
7.) Plug it into the wall. Turn it on and make sure the switch on the lower left side of the unit is flipped to the brightest light position.
Section 3: Setting up the LCD Panel
8.) Take it out of its case, gently. Lay it on top of the overhead so that you can read the words.
9.) Take the plug in and plug it into the jack on the side of the overhead.
10.) Take the computer connection cord and plug one side into the LCD and the other into the port on the back of your computer.
11.) Remember to hook up and turn on your LCD Panel before you turn the computer on. otherwise your signal will not be projected. If this happens just shutdown and reboot.
Section 4: Returning Equipment
12.) When your done, please put everything back in its cases the way you found it. Be sure to put the bungee cords on the dolly through the handles of both cases, so they don't fall off. Bring the dolly to BCU and inform someone that you have returned it for whomever's name it is checked out under. Then everything should be taken care of.
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR DYNAMITE PRESENTATION!
1: Image shows on ceiling but will not project on screen. The mirror has not dropped down. Make sure machine is sitting on legs and mirror has dropped down.
2: Image projected on top of screen and wider at top than bottom: Adjust the mirror at the top of the arm on the machine. Bring the image down to alleviate the "Keystone" effect.
3: Projected image only shows center of slide, bottom and right of slide cut off: This projector projects images which are 640x480 pixels. Most likely you are using a laptop which projects 800x600. To change this, go into windows, open the "control panel" - " select "screen" and change screen setting to 640x480.----Another reason images may be cut off is because your presentation is not set to screen-show. Go into "presentation set-up" or "slide set-up" in Powerpoint, Harvard Graphics, etc. (Usually located in the "File" menu) and select "on-screen show." In Powerpoint select "slide setup" in the "File" menu. Select "on-screen show." In Harvard Graphics select "Print Setup" in "File" menu. Select "display" under "Select a device."
