(A) Basic Flexible Endoscopy - May 21 & 22 or 23, 2010

Early Registration:
$1,600 (includes lunches)  ($1,728 after March 5, 2010)
13 CE credits

Introductory 6 hour lecture to endoscopy including indications, endoscopic instrumentation, techniques for examining the upper and lower GI tract, plus a 7-hour lab to provide hands-on experience in both upper and lower GI endoscopy.

  • Lecture - Friday, May 21 for all participants
  • Laboratory minimum 10, maximum 15
  • Laboratory - Saturday, May 22 for the first 15 registrants
  • Laboratory - Sunday, May 23 for additional registrants
  • Participants also registered for the intermediate flexible laboratory will automatically be placed in the Sunday, May 23 laboratory, therefore will have a free day on Saturday, May 22.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: If the Sunday, May 23 laboratory does not have 10 registrants by March 5, 2010; it will be cancelled, only one basic flexible endoscopy laboratory will be offered, and all courses to follow will move up by one day.


(B) Intermediate Flexible Endoscopy - May 24, 2010 *


Early Registration: $1,125 (includes lunch)  ($1,215 after March 5, 2010)
7 CE credits

1-day course (lecture, demonstration, & laboratory session) on intermediate endoscopy techniques including canine airway exam, additional experience in gastrointestinal examination, and foreign body retrieval and biopsies. This lab will also include gastrointestinal examination of cats.

  • Minimum 10, maximum 21
  • Those registered for both the basic and the intermediate flexible endoscopy laboratory will be placed in the Sunday laboratory session for the basic flexible course.
  • *IMPORTANT NOTE:  If the May 23, 2010 basic flexible endoscopy lab is cancelled, then this course will be held on May 23, 2010.



(C) Rigid Endoscopy - May 25 & 26, 2010 *


One day Course (May 25 only):
Early Registration: $1,400 (includes lunch)  ($1,512 after March 5, 2010)
Two day Course (May 25 & May 26):
Early Registration: $2,500 (includes lunch)  ($2,700 after March 5, 2010)

    Day 1 (May 25) Introduction to rigid endoscopy
    7 CE credits
    Lecture, demonstration & laboratory session on rigid endoscopy including laparoscopy, video-otoscopy, rhinoscopy and urethroscopy/cystoscopy. Participants will perform liver and pancreas biopsies using laparoscopic visualization.
    • Minimum 10, maximum 15
    • *IMPORTANT NOTE:  If the May 23, 2010 basic flexible endoscopy lab is cancelled, then this course will be held on May 24, 2010.

    Day 2 (May 26) Basics of small animal laparoscopic surgery
    7 CE credits
    • Minimum 10, maximum 15
    • *IMPORTANT NOTE:  If the May 23, 2010 basic flexible endoscopy lab is cancelled, then this course will be held on May 25, 2010.
    The basic instrumentation skills of the May 25 course are required pre requisites. This course will include 3 hours of lecture and 4 hours laboratory plus an optional 1 hr lunch session of skills training in the VALT laboratory.

    This course is an introduction to small animal laparoscopic surgery including laparoscopic instrumentation, indications, general surgical technique, procedure-specific surgical technique for ovariohysterectomy, ovariectomy, chryptorchid castration, laparoscopy-assisted gastropexy, laparoscopy-assisted enterotomy for biopsy collection and jejunostomy tube placement. Laboratory exercises with 3 participants per surgery table include laparoscopic or laparoscopy-assisted ovariohysterectomy or ovarioectomy, gastropexy, enterotomy and jejunostomy tube placement, and cystotomy.

Animal Use Statement

Some animals used in the laboratory sessions will be terminal.

$150 fee will be assessed for cancellations after April 5, 2010. See below for WSU cancelation information if minimum numbers are not met.

Cancellation by WSU

The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine reserves the right to cancel this program if minimum participant numbers are not met by April 5, 2010.  In case of cancellation, participants will be notified and a full refund of registration fees will be made. Should cancellation of the course occur for any reason, WSU will not be responsible for reimbursement of any travel, lodging, or other related expenses incurred by registrants for this course.
