Shelter Medicine
Mission statement: "As an advocate for the profession of shelter veterinary
medicine, the Association's mission is to advance the practice of shelter
medicine and to further veterinary education and research as it relates to
animals' health in shelters."

Activities 2008
- ‘Adopt’ a dog program with K9 club- socialize and train a
shelter dog so s/he can find a forever home.
- Well-cat practice physicals with the shelter cats and
volunteer.
- Trip to Lewiston shelter to tour facility and attend a
lecture by their veterinarian.
- Trip to the new purpose-built shelter in Walla Walla.
- Lecture by Dr. Hancock regarding historical and current
health issues at shelters
- Volunteer for hands on at the Feral Cat Solutions TNR
events. Many hands are needed for many aspects and can include
wound care, anesthesia, physicals, and maybe even more
complicated things like surgery if you’re a third year or
better. Denise (2011) has details if you’re interested.
- Fundraising for the Whitman County Humane Society. Bake
sales including (clearly labeled) treats for pets!
- Microchip clinic with either AVID or HomeAgain in the spring
(TBD)
- Dog Wash at the Spring Open House.
