Club’s Principles

The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine Draft Horse Club is a group of veterinary students who care for and drive the College’s official mascot, Seamus.

Our main goals are to represent the College of Veterinary Medicine and to have fun with horses.

Any veterinary student who is interested in draft horses is welcome to join; no prior experience is necessary. Club members who wish to learn how to drive the draft horse can do so during informal sessions conducted by Club members who are experienced drivers.

Seamus

Club’s History

In 1985 the Robbie Club was formed. Robbie (Clydesdale): 1975-1997. Robbie enjoyed a secure and happy retirement here in Pullman, Washington, until December 1, 1997, when he was found down in his pasture. Despite the best efforts of his caregivers, one of whom was a veterinarian, he passed away peacefully that evening. He was a giant in body and spirit.

Carpathian IX: Black Percheron gelding. Replaced Robbie in 1996, retired from duty in 1999.

Laddie: A Belgian, became the mascot in 1999. Laddie was stricken with Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (Monday morning sickness), a common muscle disease in draft horses, and died in November 2001.

Jenkins, a 23 year old Percheron cross was the mascot from 2002-2005.  Jenkins is a Native Idahoan, and he has done it all. He will pull any cart/wagon, logs, discs, plows, and even car doors (assisted in demolishing a car at the Apple Cup for Charity). He is even fun to ride. He may be old, but he has a lot of spunk! Jenkins is now  living the good life on Moscow Mountain.
