Mention:
The Clinical Study Design and Methods Terminology and Experimental Design and Statistics Terminology glossaries I mentioned today is part of my on-line Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence Based Medicine Glossary. Reviewers will be looking for many of these terms and their correct use in your proposals.
Assignment:
- Begin working with your advisor to develop the framework and details of your study structure in the outline.
- Begin pacing your way through chapters 3 through 6 in Ruxton and Colegrove
- Pay attention to the bolded terms, the key definitions, and the take home messages
- Begin pacing your way through chapters 3 through 6 in Holmes and Cockcroft or Hulley et al.
- Pay attention to the bolded terms in Hulley et al. and to the figures, diagrams, and chapter summaries in both
- Read the first parts of "Plan your research" in Tacker
- Record those concepts that remain confusing after pursuing the above sources and e-mail me so that we can discuss them in class
Week 3 & 4:
Meet in Terrell 105 Library Computer lab. Bring thumb drive (laptop optional)
Assignment (week 4):
- Exchange precis first drafts with classmates
- Review review each draft, complete a Research outline and précis scoring rubric (pdf) for each, and prepare additional relevant comments. You can write these comments on the paper copy (the old fashioned way) or prepare them as a list referring to line number of the draft (e.g.” Line 4: Hypothesis is not testable as stated. Why not reword it as . . .”) to return to the author
