- Microsomal membrane associated enzyme. Increased activity
in renal tubular cells, hepatic canalicular surfaces, and bile duct epithelium.
- Cholestasis induces production of this enzyme in large animals.
- GGT can be stimulated by glucocorticoids in dogs.
- GGT has high activity in the colostrum and can be used as a measure
of passive transfer in calves.
- Hepatic lipidosis in cats causes only slightly elevated
or normal serum levels with concurrent significant elevations in AP and ALT
and bilirubin. Normal GGT in the face of elevated AP
and ALT is highly suggestive of hepatic lipidosis.
