Small Lab "Hands-on" Sessions:

During the fall semester, you must complete three required small group "hands-on" labs -  Bovine, Equine and Small Animal. You may also complete elective labs, such as Exotics and Swine, if you wish. Two of these required hands-on labs (Bovine, Equine) have assigned groups.

For Equine, you have the option of completing the lab with Teri Olson, Equine Veterinary Technician, in the Equine Section of the clinic but you must do so before your scheduled equine lab occurs. Otherwise, attend your scheduled Equine Lab.

The Clinic Small Animal Restraint does not have either scheduled times or assigned groups. The lab is with Skeeter Munson, Small Animal Veterinary Technician, and usually occurs on Friday, depending on Small Animal Clinic case-load and patient scheduling. By Friday most NVTH clinic sections know their schedule for the next week, baring emergencies, and thus when they can take students. Please take your test schedule (pdf) and so on into account prior to signing up.

Note: Each Lead Instructional Technician is responsible for approval and sign off of any small group exercise substitution (e.g., club activity, previous experience, non-CVM training course) for their section. Please contact them prior to the event and for subsequent sign off. The course director defers any such requests to the Lead Instructional Technician.

Disease Information: Resources for first year students

Laboratory and Small Group Attire:

For Small Animal Restraint Lab and small group activities involving dogs, cats or exotics wear clean clinic smocks. For equine, camelid and small ruminant activities, wear clean coveralls and washable boots.

Animal Science Livestock Center biosecurity policies require that you wear clean protective coveralls and clean washable over boots or rubber boots for entry to the bovine laboratory sessions.

Directions to non-CVM Locations:

The Bovine sessions will be in the Cattle Feeding Lab on Grimes Way. It is a low white building with corrals and pens located on the north side of Grimes Way just past the WSU Feed Mill, which is about mid-way between the green houses and the Grizzly Bear Facility (which is at the T-intersection of Grimes Way with Airport Road).
