Client Script/Scenario
A few days before the DC begins, your case facilitator will provide a Day
1 Client Script. The script contains the basic information you will need to
get your case started on Tuesday. It contains detailed information on your
animal or herd -including the reasons for today's visit, clinical - personal
history, and answers to specific questions you are likely to be asked.
Pretty much everything that is essential will be written down on your Day 1
script. If you’re asked something not on the script, you can just
improvise!
- Your facilitator may want to meet or talk with you as late as the
day before the DC starts so that your script can be tailored a bit to
fit your real life circumstances. This makes the story and details
easier to remember, but is not always possible. The evening client
training meeting, set for Monday at 6 pm is also
another opportunity you will have to speak with your facilitator about
the case.
- Do your best to memorize (know) your DC story and the details, as it
makes the interview more realistic and more enjoyable for you. However,
there is sometimes a lot to remember so don’t worry about having to
refer back to your script during the interview. The students know you
have a lot to keep track of and have been told you may use your script.
They also know that you are likely to be writing notes during each
interview.
- You will NOT be told the diagnosis on your case until the students
figure it out and tell you themselves. We’ve found that this makes the
experience more realistic and more fun for both DC clients and
students. Instead, you will be working closely with your assigned case
facilitator throughout the week. He or she will be consulting with you
multiple times each day. At that time they will provide more
information for you to share with the students, additional questions for
you to ask or issues to raise, and specific advice on interacting with
particular clinics or individual students.
Our students are wonderful. Enjoy them and yourselves!
