Kids can pick their brain as the Washington State University’s
Program in Neuroscience celebrates Brain Awareness Week with
hands-on activities to help kids understand the importance
and function of their brain, Tuesday, March 12, 10 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. in the WSU Ensminger Pavilion in Pullman.
As part of The Amazing Brain presentation, the program will encourage
the children to use their brains in creative problem solving and
activity stations. To learn about the sizes, shapes and structures
of the brain - from the human brain to the brain of a mouse, the
children will judge brain models developed by undergraduate students
in the Neurophysiology course. The elementary students will judge
each model and a winning model will be announced at the conclusion
of the event. The brain models will cover a variety of topics
including brain electrical currents, the blood brain barrier, action
potentials, neurons, hearing, taste, and memory.
Neuroscience faculty and student volunteers from WSU will be on hand
to assist kids with the activities as part of their partnership in
the
Brain Awareness Week campaign
which is sponsored by the Society for Neuroscience, and the
Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives.
