Part 1- for Local Computer & Laptop Projection Maintenance and Operation: As a university room, most equipment of the equipment in Bustad 145 are owned and maintained by Instructional Support Services (ISS), located in the old Holland Library. However, the classroom assistant and the staff at BCU, have been trained to help with most everyday uses. If you have any questions it's best to contact them first for help. Otherwise, they can be used as an intermediary between ISS to get further questions answered and acquire additional help. BCU may also supply light bulbs on an emergency basis for the slide and overhead projectors in this room. Permanent Projection Equipment: This room is equipped with two slide projectors, a microphone, an overhead projector, a Pentium computer, a VHS player, a large screen, speakers, and an NEC multimedia projector. This projector can take images from most computers as well as most video input devices and project them onto a screen. The Pentium runs Windows 95, has a CD-ROM drive, a floppy disk drive, a zip drive, MS Office 97 including Power Point 97, Harvard Graphics, and is hooked up to the CVM network including access to the interenet (for networking problems contact VIS). Sound from the computer and the VCR are wired into the classrooms audio system. Section 1: Using the Local Pentium Computer l.) The computer in this room should be left on at all times. Therefore, all you need to do is turn the computer monitor on. However, if you need to use the floppy, zip, or CD-ROM drive, you will need to check out a key from BCU. This key unlocks the cabinet just below the monitor where the computer is located. NOTE: Always turn the monitor off and lock the computer cabinet when you are done. Please do not lock the mouse and keyboard in the cabinet, and ALWAYS leave the computer ON. 2.) Check the control panel on the front of the podium to see that the cord from the computer (coming from the back of the podium) is plugged into the computer plugin on the lower left of the panel. (Sometimes instructors using laptops computers disconnect this plug to connect their laptops and forget the reconnect the main computer.) 3.) Sound can be controlled by clicking the lower left corner of the screen with the speaker icon. A volume control will be displayed on the screen. You can control the master volume control with the mouse. 4.) Continue to Section 4. 1.) Laptops each have a slightly different output signal. The NEC projector is calibrated with the ones most used by the college, and will automatically synch up with your laptop. Should your model/brand not be calibrated with the projection system, you will need to contact ISS and make sure it has been pre-synched to your particular unit. Plan ahead, or borrow a CVM laptop from BCU or the Vet/Pharmacy Library that is already calibrated. 2.) You will need a monitor connection cable (available for checkout from BCU) which connects the output (monitor out) of your laptop to the computer input jack on the lower left of the podium. (There is an extra adapter to the cable if you are using a Macintosh.) Always make sure your laptop is connected and turned on before you turn the projector on. 3.) If you are using sound from the laptop, contact Stephanie or Rich at BCU sometime in advance before your presentation. 4.) Continue to Section 4. 1.) First, check out a set of keys for the Projection cabinet from BCU in 123 Bustad. 2.) The projection cabinet is located in the center of the room. Unlock the front cabinet doors. Locate and push power button on the left front of the VCR in the cabinet. You should see a display light up on the right front of the VCR. If not, you may need to flip the power switch that is inside the cabinet on the right (looks like a light switch). It controls the power for both the VCR and the Projector. 3.) Put in your video in the VCR. (It may automatically start playing.) Leave the cabinet doors open so the VCR is visible from the podium. Locate the black Panasonic remote control unit on the podium to operate the VCR . Point the remote toward the VCR and push the appropriate buttons to play, stop, rewind and fast forward. Section 4: Using the Projector 1.) Locate the large white remote control that is attached to the podium to the right of the light switches. Push the green 'ON' Button in the upper left. Then push the number '2-DEF' button. It will take some time for the projector to warm up, so be patient. (Don't keep hitting on and off.) If it comes on with a blue screen and Video listed in the upper right - punch the number '2-DEF'' button again. 1: It takes several minutes for the projector to warm up. If you keep hitting on and off it will never warm up enough to come on. Just push on and wait awhile. 2: The projector will turn off automatically within 30 seconds if it is not receiving any information. If this happens just turn it on again and make sure the VCR is playing. 3: The projector is defaulted to come up on the VCR so remember to push 2 if you are trying to project from the computer or a laptop. 4: If the VCR does come on, but the projector never does, try finding the on/off switch on the projector. It is on the lower left comer of the projector itself. 5: If none of this helps contact the staff at BCU. |
