| Responding to current and predicted
shortages of well-trained veterinary anatomic and clinical pathologists,
the
ACVP/STP Coalition
for Veterinary Pathology Fellows selected Washington State University’s
College of Veterinary Medicine as one of 10 institutions for Anatomic
Pathology Residencies. The positions are competitively awarded to
training programs based on the past performance of graduates and the
current training program and environment, including faculty and caseload
available for training purposes. “The receipt of an ACVP/STP Coalition
Fellowship by WSU is evidence of the past and current excellence of
WSU’s training program in veterinary pathology. These highly competitive
positions are awarded to only the finest veterinary pathology training
programs in North America,” said Dr. Gary Cockerell, director of the
ACVP/STP Coalition for Veterinary Pathology Fellows. |

The ACVP/STP Coalition for
Veterinary Pathology Fellows represents a unique partnership between the
highest quality North American academic training programs and
world-class biopharmaceutical companies to provide much-needed, well
trained veterinary pathologists.
Funding for the WSU position was provided by
Amgen, a leading human therapeutics
company in the biotechnology industry. “Valuable support from Amgen,
through the ACVP/STP Coalition, not only allows WSU to train additional
anatomic pathologists, addressing a critical shortage of highly qualifi
ed specialists in the global biomedical community but also greatly
enhances the training experience by fostering direct, on-site,
face-to-face interactions of the Fellow and academic training department
with biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry sponsors,” said Dr. Tim
Baszler, professor, Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology,
and director, Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. |
