Dr. Bryan K. Slinker, Chair of IPN for a number of years and recently named Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine was among the six WSU faculty members selected as new Fellows for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).  WSU's College of Veterinary Medicine now has four AAAS Fellows in its ranks.

According to a statement from AAAS, Dr. Slinker and the others five members from WSU are among 486 chosen as fellows this year "because of their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications."  The official announcement of these new members will be made in the December 19 (2009) issue of the journal of Science.

According to the Dean's blog announcement of the award, an AAAS Fellow is defined as "a Member whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished." Examples of areas in which nominees may have made significant contributions are research; teaching; technology; services to professional societies; administration in academe, industry, and government; and communicating and interpreting science to the public. One could argue that Dr. Slinker fits ALL of these categories, and our congratulations go out to him on being thus recognized.
