For those new to Microsoft Outlook, VIS provides you
with this quick web tutorial on the basics of running Outlook. Under each screen
shot are quick descriptions of the highlighted areas. Please allow time for these
images to load if you are on a modem with a slower connection.
Screen after you load Outlook:

- New Message: Click the
button to compose a new message. The results to this are shown in the next image
below.
- Delete: This will
delete the message highlighted in the message list. Deleted messages go to the
"Deleted Items" folder where they are stored until deleted again. (like the
Windows Recycle Bin)
- Reply, Reply to All, Forward:
This will reply, reply to a list, or forwards your message that is highlighted in the
message list.
- Address Book: This
button opens the address book which is shown below in the last image.
- Folder List: This is
where you can find the other options in Outlook. The INBOX holds your emails,
CALENDAR has a built in calendar like a scheduler, CONTACTS is like a small rolodex,
DELETED ITEMS is the temporary holder for deleted emails, NOTES is like a
"sticky-pad" program, SENT ITEMS holds your sent emails, and TASKS allows you to
make job reminders. The rest are not used enough to be important.
- Messages: This is where
all of your messages will be shown. Double click on the highlighted one (with the
blue behind it) to open it. The "read message" window is shown two images
below here.

Sending New Message Window:

- Send Button: Click here
to send your email when you are finished.
- Attachment: The paper
clip button opens a window to select files to include in your email.
- Address Book: Opens the
address book like two images below.
- To:, Email Address Here:
This is where you type in the email address(es). Clicking on the To: button opens
the address book.
- Message Text: Where you
write your messages.

Reading your message window:

- Reply/Reply to All/Forward:
Replies or forwards the current message.
- Scroll Up/Scroll Down:
Goes between messages without having to go to the main program window.

Address Book:

- Address Book Selection:
This is where you switch between Global Address Book and Personal Address Book
- List of Users: Where
all the users in the selected Address Book are. In the Global Address Book, the
users with a little globe next to their name are users that do not have an Outlook Mailbox
(Account); the other users do.
- Users Selected: This is
the list of users that will receive the message.
