  Appointment Procedures    
  The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is open for large and small animals from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Animals are seen by appointment only. 

A 24-hour emergency service for both small and large animals is available.

Please call 509-335-0711 if you are bringing in an animal as an emergency.

  Appointments may be scheduled directly by individual service areas. If you are unable to reach a number directly, you may call the main hospital number (509) 335-0711 and the operator will transfer you to the correct personnel.

Small Animal appointments may be made by calling the appointment desk at (509) 335-0751 or (509) 335-0752 or by way of the switchboard at (509)335-0711.
  • Cardiology appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday mornings. These appointments may vary depending on Dr. Nelson’s teaching and research schedules. Cases that cannot wait for an appointment with Dr. Nelson may be admitted through the Internal Medicine service or service for consultation on other species (ie. exotics, equine, etc.)
  • Internal Medicine routine appointments are scheduled Monday and Wednesday
    mornings; emergencies can be admitted as needed.
  • Neurology appointments are made with the neurology technician and are usually scheduled for Monday and Wednesday mornings. Dial (509) 335-0711 and ask for a neurology technician or Patient Services Representative Sally Anderson. Owners should be informed that they can expect to be in Pullman for two days for a complete assessment; including exam, blood work, MRI and associated anesthesia. If surgery is necessary, the client can plan on the patient staying approximately one week.
  • Orthopedics consultation appointments are scheduled Monday and Wednesday mornings to allow for surgeries to be performed on Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Soft Tissue spay and neuter appointments are scheduled Monday through Thursday mornings through our Community Practice service. Other soft tissue consultation appointments are scheduled Tuesday for surgeries to be performed on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Theriogenology appointments are scheduled on an individualized basis to accommodate both the client and the clinician.
 
   
 
Equine appointments are made by calling the main switchboard at (509) 335-0711.
  • Medicine appointments are scheduled Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Surgery consultation appointments are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays to allow for subsequent surgeries to be performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Theriogenology scheduled on an individualized basis at a time most convenient for both the animal owner and the clinician.
 
   
 
Agricultural Animals appointments may be made by calling the Food Animal desk. Please see below for directed phone numbers based on the type of appointment.
  • Medicine appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 11:30am and 1:30pm - 5:00pm, or by arrangement. (509) 335-5377
  • Surgery appointments scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 11:30am and 1:30pm - 5:00pm, or by arrangement. (509) 335-5377
  • Theriogenology appointments are made individually to accommodate both the owner and the clinician. (509) 335-0741
 
   
 
Wildlife   Shirley Sandoval LVT, is the licensed rehabilitation specialist for Elk, Deer, Moose and Bison. Appointments may be made with her by calling the food animal appointment number. Any of these animals coming from Idaho must have a permit from Idaho Fish and Game prior to being transferred to WSU. These permits can be obtained by calling the Department of Fish and Game at (208) 799-5010. Note- WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital is unable to "trap" or transport these wild animals. Local Fish and Game officers may be able to assist you with these issues. To contact Shirley Sandoval, please call (509)335-0741.
 
   
 
Exotics appointments are scheduled Monday through Thursday afternoons and may be made by calling the Small Animal appointment desk. Specific referral questions may be addressed with either Nickol Finch, DVM or Angela Teal, LVT.
