This handbook has been developed as a general guideline for users of this laboratory. The procedures outlined here are not the only approach to arriving at a diagnosis but represent a consensus of this staff. These procedures will enable us to do the best possible job for you. It is impossible to develop a handbook to cover all diseases or diagnostic techniques. You are encouraged to call or write the laboratory concerning particular services.

It is the preference of the Laboratory to work through local veterinarians since they can evaluate client-producer's problems and identify those problems requiring laboratory assistance. Materials should be submitted to WADDL by or at the direction of the practitioner. Results of examinations, tests, and analyses will be returned to the practitioner for consideration in formulating a diagnosis and recommending action unless otherwise requested. We also appreciate your consideration for the limitations of a diagnostic laboratory. The laboratory can only serve as an aid to the diagnosis and should not be used as a substitute for good clinical examinations and evaluation.

Clinical Pathology and Clinical Chemistry
 A complete clinical pathology laboratory is present in the Teaching Hospital. Because of this, WADDL has seen no need to duplicate this service. Questions concerning that area should be directed to (509) 335-0711 or 335-0745.

Referral Service:
There are several tests that WADDL does not perform routinely due to low demand. Samples received requesting such tests will automatically be forwarded to an appropriate laboratory for processing. We will attempt to refer samples to laboratories that are reliable, rapid and as inexpensive as possible. If a test is not listed in this handbook please call to see if the test is available and, if not, where it will be sent. You may want to deal directly with the referral laboratory. A referral fee will be assessed to cover handling and shipping expenses in addition to the test charges (see Fee Schedule).
