The Aquatic Health Section of WADDL provides health screening and diagnostic testing for marine and fresh water fish, including ornamental species. WADDL is accredited by the AAVLD and the Aquatic Health Section is USDA approved for testing live fish products for export. AFS and Canadian Health Inspectors on staff are available to assist with testing for interstate and international movement of live fish products.

General Policies

  1. All cases except those exclusively for toxicology will be assessed an accession fee of $10.00. An accession is defined as specimen(s) of one animal species or miscellaneous substances belonging to one owner and submitted at one time.
     
  2. Clinical pathology services (e.g., hematology and cytology) are provided by the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) (509-335-0745). These services are billed by VCS.
     
  3. A FAX, mail or electronic report is provided at no charge.
     
  4. Samples sent for analysis to outside labs are billed for any additional direct costs incurred. Handling fee (includes postage) is $15.00.
     
  5. Fees are subject to change without notice.
     
  6. Use Federal Express Account #2112-4551-4 for discounted shipping. Freight costs will be invoiced with case charges. FOR WADDL SUBMISSIONS ONLY.

Aquatic Health Inspection Testing

Aquatic animal health testing is performed in accordance with the guidelines outlined in both the OIE Manual of Diagnostic Tests for Aquatic Animals and the AFS-USFWS Blue Book.

Turn around time for all health inspections is 29 days based on the requirements set forth in both manuals for virology testing.

Two to four weeks advanced notice for scheduling purposes is stongly recommended on all health inspection samplings
