A Cruising Cat |
Fred is an 8 year old cat who was first seen at WSU in February with a tumor that was pressing on his spinal cord. As much of the tumor as possible was surgically removed. He is now being treated with radiation therapy.
There is very little available information on whether radiation treatment is effective in treating this type of tumor in cats so Fred's long term prognosis is unknown, although since beginning treatment he has been moving and using his hind legs more than before treatment. |
| Fred has had 13 of 18 radiation treatments so far. He is placed under anesthesia for each treatment which lasts for just a few minutes. Fred gets physical therapy treatment three times a day during which his hip and knee joints are manipulated. He is not impressed with his physical therapy. He would rather be taken for a walk in his cruise cart especially if he can stop by the exotics ward and stare at the birds. The tumor interfered with his bladder control as well and he appears to be regaining some bladder control. | |
