Bryan Slinker Accepts the Position of Dean

Dr.
Bryan K. Slinker, acting Interim Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine
since November of 2008, has accepted the deanship on a permanent basis. He
formerly served as Executive Associate Dean and Chair of Veterinary and
Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology and Physiology.
“Dr. Slinker was ranked as an outstanding choice by virtually all the college
faculty. He is highly organized, has great vision and is perfectly positioned
to continue implementation of the College’s very progressive and productive
strategic plans,” said Warwick Bayly, Provost and Executive Vice President.
Dr. Slinker, a Professor of Veterinary and Comparative Anatomy, Pharmacology and
Physiology (VCAPP), received his B.S. in Zoology from the College of Idaho in
1976, and his D.V.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Washington State University in 1980
and 1982, respectively. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Cardiovascular
Research Institute of the University of California, San Francisco, and then
served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University
of Vermont from 1986-1992 before returning to Washington State University in
1992. He served as the Chair of the VCAPP from 1999-2008.
Dr. Slinker's research focuses on heart and cardiac muscle function. He has more
than 50 publications in books and scientific journals, principally in the
American Journal of Physiology, Circulation Research, Cardiovascular Research,
and Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology.
