AVMA VLE Assessments

June 2-7, 2009
Ross Point Camp and Conference Center-Post Falls, ID

VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ. You are being asked to read and sign an informed consent and complete 3 assessments. These 3 assessments each have a unique set of instructions describing how to access and complete the assessment along with a link to the actual survey.

In order to be able to "tie" all the information from these 3 assessments together into one "package" and allow the results to be anonymous, you are being asked to enter into each assessment a numerical code that you will be given at the completion of the first assessment, which is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). To help you remember this code, you are encouraged to enter the numerical code into the text box called <Access Code for Assessment Instruments> in the form you used to register and enter your personal information (see link at left called <Edit Info./Register> ).

You may want to print this page.

Assessment Information and Directions
Thank you for your patience and willingness to take the pre-AVMA VLE assessments. Each of these assessment instruments has been selected to give you information that will help you to know more about yourself on both personal and professional levels as you hone your leadership skills. You will be asked to take most of these assessments again at a later date to help you monitor the development of your leadership skills.

The information you provide will be kept confidential and will be used for a research study about veterinary leadership development. It should take less than two hours to complete these assessments. If possible, it would be best to not take them in one sitting. Please follow the directions given for each part of this page. It is very important to this study and to your full preparation for and engagement in the AVMA VLE that you complete this process BEFORE you leave for the AVMA VLE.

Please complete the following steps in the order in which they appear.
Please answer with responses that are TRUE FOR YOU NOW, not what you would like to be true for you. It will be most helpful to you to be using valid and reliable information for your self-development process.

Remember, you do not need to complete each of these steps at the same time. Please complete each of them BEFORE you leave for the AVMA VLE, and print out what you are asked to print out to bring with you to the AVMA VLE.

If you have questions about these assessments please contact either Drs. Kathy Ruby or Susan Seaman.
Again, thank you for taking the time to provide data that will help refine veterinary leadership development processes.

The three assessments are numbered in yellow.

Before you take the three assessments:

Informed Consent - Please read the linked informed consent description and form, print the form, sign the form, and bring it with you to the AVMA VLE.

#1 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Instrument (a link to the assessment follows these instructions)

Welcome to the MBTI process! I will be facilitating an “Introduction to the MBTI” session at the VLE. Please complete the online MBTI assessment along with the other assessments at your earliest convenience.

The MBTI assessment is a personality tool based on the theories of Carl Jung. It is nonjudgmental and allows people to gain an understanding of their preferences, particularly with respect to energy source, information gathering, decision making, and lifestyle/work patterns. It is widely used by organizations and helps people to develop an understanding of themselves as well as their co-workers in order to create and nurture effective working relationships. Over 60 years of research and development have demonstrated its reliability and validity.

It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete the assessment online. You should complete the assessment privately. The MBTI should be answered as honestly as possible, with an "at-home, kick-your-shoes-off, this feels like me most of the time" response.

The MBTI assessment produces 16 different personality types, each with its own characteristics and strengths. There is no assumed right way to be and there are no right or wrong answers. Final results will be shared in our session but your responses to these questions will not be shared. Work quickly (your first response is usually your best response). You don't have to answer all questions, but please try and answer as many as possible.
You may wish to print these instructions to help you with the online assessment process. Enjoy!
