Welcome!
The AVMA Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE) is a multi-day
curriculum that stresses challenge by choice. Through unique
interaction with colleagues from other veterinary schools and
sponsors, AVMA VLE participants emerge with a powerful network of
friends and current leaders in the profession, enhanced leadership
and communication skills, a deeper understanding and respect for
professional leadership and a commitment to addressing the
challenges and opportunities facing the profession.
We aspire to make this an extremely positive experience for you, so we have
included pertinent information related to registration, assessments, travel
arrangements, lodging, meals, etc. Please use the links (to the left) provided
for you to guide you through this process.
Registrants will receive information updates via e-mail in the weeks leading up
to the AVMA VLE.

Monday, June 6th . . .
Arrival: In order to be bussed to Ross Point Camp and
Conference Center on June 6th, it will be necessary for you to
make your flight arrival time at the Spokane International
Airport on June 6th, no later than 3:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).
Those of you who will be driving can obtain a map through Map
Quest www.mapquest.com.
The Ross Point Camp and Conference Center address is: 820 S Ross
Point Road, Post Falls, ID 83854. Telephone number is
208.773.1655.
If you do not have your travel arrangements at the time you fill in your
registration form, please provide us with your travel itinerary once you have
obtained your tickets. Email your flight arrival and flight departure
information, along with airline and flight numbers) to Karen Hornfelt
at khornfelt@vetmed.wsu.edu. It is
critical that we receive this information before May 1 to assist our student
hosts in organizing, greeting and directing you to the Spokane International
Airport Ramada Inn, located directly across the street from the airport.
Saturday, June 11th . . .
Departure: Please plan your flight departure
time as soon after 12:00 Noon, (Pacific Time), Saturday, June
11th, as is feasible.
You will be sharing cabins or lodging rooms with other AVMA VLE participants
while at Ross Point
www.rosspoint.org. The lodge rooms
(hotel-like) will accommodate 2–3 people and the cabins accommodate up to 12
people. If possible, we will try to limit the number of people per cabin.
Faculty, sponsors, and international students will be housed
in the lodge rooms where bedding, towels, and basic hotel toiletries are
provided.
All other participants will be in cabins and will need to
bring a:
- Sleeping Bag
- Pillow
- Towel and toiletries
All meals are served family style in the dining room at designated times. You
will be provided three healthy meals a day, along with a salad bar during lunch
and dinner. Please indicate dietary needs or restrictions on your AVMA
VLE registration.
- Casual clothes, hiking shoes or tennis shoes (you will be outside most
of the time)
- Sunscreen, insect repellent, toiletries
- Jacket or sweatshirt – It is chilly in the evenings, especially while on
the Lake Coeur d’Alene dessert cruise
- Optional: flashlight, camera, swimsuit, beach towel, baseball cap,
sunglasses, etc.
NOTE: Throughout the week you will receive a few VLE items and you
will need to accommodate for those items in your suitcase.
Ross Point has an Internet kiosk available for all guests in the office lobby,
as well as wireless service. The wireless service is best in the cafeteria area.
The cruise is scheduled for the evening of June 10th. We will have dinner at
Ross Point, and then be bussed to the Coeur d'Alene Resort in Coeur d'Alene,
Idaho. We will board the boat and take a two-hour dessert cruise on beautiful
Lake Coeur d’Alene
www.cdaresort.com. Bring your cameras!
Please fill the
registration form in completely
before May 1st. It's important we have
your correct email address and telephone number in case we need to communicate
with you regarding your registration information, such as travel itinerary,
dietary needs, special needs, etc.
Two assessments will be 'live' on the AVMA VLE website beginning May 1st. They
are: the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Veterinary Leadership
Experience Pre-Experience Evaluation. Their content is integrated throughout the
VLE. Completion will require approximately one hour.
