About Drew...

I was born in Colville, WA and grew up in the neighboring town of Kettle Falls.  I come from a small family and am one of a few to have attended a large university.  My family has lived in the country for several generations, and I enjoy many outdoor activities.

Undergraduate Education:
  • Washington State University 2013
  • B.S. in Neuroscience (General)
Current research topic:
I am currently studying the effects of various endogenous proteins and growth factors on dendrite and spine development in hippocampal neurons.  I am transfecting neurons with DNA which codes for the protein of interest (to be over-expressed) and fluorescent proteins to mark the growth of the dendrites in culture.

Other Interests:
I love running, swimming and fishing; but I also enjoy reading, writing poetry and playing guitar.
  • Magna Cum Laude – WSU 2013
  • ARCS Fellowship recipient
Major Advisor:
Steve Simasko
Lab Rotations: Gary Wayman

Year entered PhD Program:
Fall 2013
