About Brieann...

Biography:
I was born and raised in Spokane, WA. I have worked at the Sleep and Performance Research Center at WSU Spokane as a research assistant since 2008, where I discovered the sleep research field, and now plan to pursue sleep research as a career path.

Undergraduate Education:
  •  Gonzaga University, Spokane WABachelor of
  • Science in Biology, 2010; Minor in Psychology, 2010
Current research topic:

At the Sleep and Performance Research Center, we conduct in-laboratory and field studies focused on human sleep, wakefulness, and performance. Our primary goal is to address critical questions related to the effects of sleep and sleep loss on cognitive functioning and health.  My latest research involved examining melatonin secretion patterns in study participants who were subjected to a 14-day simulated night shift protocol. I also hope to explore a variety of sleep related hormones and cytokines of human participants undergoing sleep restriction, deprivation, and/or circadian misalignment in relation to health and cognitive performance.

Other Interests:

Aside from my research, I enjoy hiking with my dog, traveling, cooking and baking.

Awards/Honors:
