Graduate Student: Kimberly Honn
Kimberly Honn
About Kimberly...
Biography:
I was born and raised in Liberty Lake, WA. Music and dance have always been huge parts of my life. My job in high school was playing piano for a local church. My dance background involves a variety, from tap to jazz, swing, and high school colorguard. When I graduated high school, I attended WSU as a Distinguished Regents Scholar to study Neuroscience and Psychology. The summer after my junior year, I married my high school sweetheart, Nick. We have two cats that provide us with endless entertainment. I love to cook, bake, throw parties, and other attempts at being domestic. I am fascinated by studying how the brain works. I began working in a sleep research lab as a freshman undergraduate and fell in love with the field. Several of the top sleep researchers in the world are at WSU, so it was the perfect place for me to attend graduate school.
Undergraduate Education:
Washington State University, Pullman
B.S. in Neuroscience, 2011, B.S. in Psychology, 2011
Current research topic:
I am completing my graduate research at Washington State University Spokane in the Sleep and Performance Research Center. Here, we study how sleep and sleep deprivation impact cognitive functions and other performance measures in humans.

Aside from science, I love spending time with my husband and our cats. I enjoy finding new recipes to work on improving my cooking skills, playing piano, and drinking lots of coffee.
Awards/Honors:
Achievement Rewards for College Scientists fellowship awarded by the Seattle Chapter of ARCS.
Major Advisor:
Dr. Hans Van Dongen
Year entered PhD Program:
Fall 2011
