About John...
Biography:
Born April 21 in Chennai, a metropolitan
city in South India. Attended Union Christian Matriculation and Higher
Secondary School.
Undergraduate Education:
Sathyabama University,
Chennai (B-Tech in Biotechnology).
Ever since my childhood, I have been talented in art and especially loved to
draw horses. This was one reason I really enjoyed my biology classes; it was
an opportunity to make use of my drawing ability in academics. After my
undergraduate degree, I had to choose between Biology and Computer Science.
I was in a dilemma. To make a long story short, I worked as a software
engineer with Infosys Technologies Limited for 2 years prior to joining WSU
graduate school.
Other Interests:
I enjoy playing the trumpet,
"trying" to stay fit with gym workouts and playing cricket, and caring for
horses at Orphan Acres, (a horse rescue and rehabilitation organization).
Current research topic:
1.
Regulatory role of myosin essential light chain in
cardiac contractile activation.
2. The effects alpha-tropomyosin
mutation D230N (associated with Dilated Cardiomyopathy) on the length-
dependency of cardiac myofilament
contractility.
3. Role of the H1-helix and the
flexible linker of the C-terminus of troponin T in modulating cardiac
myofilament
activation.
Awards/Honors:
Gold medalist in my undergraduate education for
coming 1st in the Department of Biotechnology.
