Specific Research Areas

My primary research interests are in the fields of infectious disease, hematology, and pain management. I am currently investigating the pathogenesis of disease in horses infected with Sarcocystis neurona, the most common cause of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis. I am also investigating ways to more adequately manage pain in horses that have undergone abdominal surgery.

Selected Publications

Long MT, Hines MT, Knowles DP, Tanhauser SM, Dame JB, Cutler TJ, MacKay RJ, Sellon DC. Characterization of Sarcocystis neurona isolated from the blood of an experimentally infected severe combined immune deficient (SCID) foal. Submitted for publication.
